Getting the Size Right

One of the most common mistakes when buying wall art is choosing a piece that is either too small or too large for the space. A general rule of thumb is that artwork should occupy 57–75% of the available wall width above a piece of furniture.

The Rule of Thirds

For a gallery wall, use the rule of thirds: imagine your wall divided into a 3x3 grid. Cluster your artwork within the middle sections for a balanced, intentional look.

Measuring for a Single Statement Piece

For a single large piece above a sofa, measure your sofa width and multiply by 0.66. That gives you the ideal artwork width. Leave at least 20–25cm between the top of the sofa and the bottom of the frame.
